$10,000 Grants Launched To Help WA Small Businesses Scale And Diversify
The Cook Government is turning up the dial on support for small business, rolling out a fresh round of funding designed to help local enterprises strengthen, diversify, and scale. The new Small Business Growth Grants, announced this month, open the door for eligible businesses to access matched funding of up to $10,000 — a significant injection for a sector that underpins more than $50 billion in annual economic activity across the state.
What are the Small Business Growth Grants?
The Small Business Growth Grants are aimed squarely at Western Australian businesses looking to unlock their next stage of growth. Successful applicants will receive matched funding vouchers of up to $10,000, designed to support a range of strategic business needs — from business planning and digital marketing, to financial health checks, cybersecurity, tender responses, export readiness, and market positioning.
Crucially, the program encourages participating businesses to use their voucher to engage other WA small businesses for expert advice and specialist services. The result is a ripple effect, keeping investment and opportunities within the state’s thriving business ecosystem.
The impact of small business in WA
Small businesses form the bedrock of Western Australia’s economy, contributing not just to the state’s bottom line but also drive local jobs. “We know that small businesses play an incredibly important role across our State — providing essential services, creating jobs and contributing to communities,” Small Business Minister Jackie Jarvis said.
The Growth Grants are intended to help businesses “access expert services through this program to support businesses take the next step in their operations.” For many, that next step might mean breaking into new markets, shoring up digital defences, or making the leap from start-up to scale-up.
Who is delivering the program?
The Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC), a trusted arm of the State Government with more than 40 years of experience, is managing the program. The SBDC’s longstanding reputation for practical, hands-on support has made it a mainstay for WA’s small business community.
“With more than 40 years of experience delivering practical and trusted small business support across Western Australia, the SBDC is proud to deliver this new funding support,” said Small Business Commissioner Saj Abdoolakhan. “Whether an enterprise needs to improve their online presence, get help managing their supply chain, develop systems for a safe workplace or secure other specialist help, the Small Business Growth Grant will help them access the specialist business services and advice they need to build capability.”
Opportunities for digital businesses and startups
While the grants are open to all eligible small businesses in Western Australia, digital businesses and startups are expected to find particular value. Funding can be used for digital marketing and e-commerce strategies, cybersecurity solutions, and advice on export readiness — all critical for innovative ventures looking to gain a foothold or expand.
The program’s emphasis on capability-building is especially relevant as many WA businesses continue to adapt to new technology, changing markets, and increasing competition.
