20 Thought-Provoking Takeaways From The Devil Wears Prada 2

The sequel to The Devil Wears Prada sparked a cross-generational wave of excitement way before its release – a phenomenon that is quite rare to witness considering how diverse cultural tastes can be in today’s time. Boomers, millennials and Gen-Zs dressing their chicest and showing up for the premier of a film felt like a spectacle in itself. While some of it might feel performative, but for the most the curiosity and excitement run deep.

The Devil Wears Prada
With an iconic ensemble of Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, the film navigates not just the fashion world, but the contemporary world of journalism and exposes some hard-hitting truths. With the rise of AI and paid PR, the film raises necessary questions on the commodified and artificial state of media. There is a thrill in watching these characters own the big screen but also an underlying melancholy as the film navigates a profession that feels at crossroads today more than ever. Nostalgia and wit do most of the heavy lifting as the film explores new age anxieties and definition of power.
While the plot seems questionable at times, the film is made for its ardent fans. Fans who have savoured the iconic dialogues and cherished its feel-good sentiment for the past two decades.

I watched the film in a packed theatre on a Wednesday night in a company of loud hoots and silent tears. Here are a few thoughts that lingered with me, in no particular order:
I miss Nigel commanding, “Gird your loins.”
Is Miranda actually carrying her own coat?
Thank God Andy found someone who lets her live her dream.
Woah! Andy’s had a major fashion upgrade.
Is Miranda really travelling economy?
Emily’s revenge era starts strong but why rely on a guy with ear hair? Ew
That guy is lowering her aura! Ugh
Go Sasha!
Lady Gaga really gagged us!
Andy watching the intern and reminiscing is so wholesome.
Miranda finally realising Nigel’s due will bring you down to tears
Oh, that’s the step that Hathaway had brutally tripped down and the internet went crazy. “Leaked scenes” don’t really damage your film.
Does journalism really hold credibility today? Are we doomed with the rise of AI?
This nepo-baby’s snobbish attitude towards Miranda is hilarious but I pity her.
I hope Andy writes that book
They have softened Miranda a bit too much. I love her being the OG Ice Queen.
Miranda deserved a stronger and sassier redemption arc.
“Forever my girl” Oh Nigel, like we don’t love you enough already
Everyone needs a Nigel… but what about Nigel himself?
That’s all.
